Sensei is a Japanese word that simply means teacher. In Japan, all teachers from the piano teacher, the school teacher all the way to the martial arts masters, are called Sensei.
Budokon Senseis are required to be belted in one or several other forms of martial arts, be certified yoga teachers with several years of teaching experience, and have a solid personal meditation practice before even earning their white belts. They then enter into a rigorous and strict teacher training program which comprises of a belted ranking system. To receive their their teacher, or 'sensei' red belt status, Budokon practitioners must pass a grueling theoritical and practical examination that tests their spiritual, mental and physiscal limits, as well as their grasp of the zen practice. The exam requires months or reading and dedicated physical practice.
The average sleep requirement is between seven and eight hours a day for an adult and nine to ten hours for a child; elderly people usually sleep for six to seven hours. Negative effects result from restriction of sleep. For instance, a sustained restriction of adult sleep to four hours per day has been shown to correlate with changes in physiology and mental state, including fatigue, aggression, and bodily discomfort. It is common in modern societies for people to get less sleep than they need, leading to a state of sleep deprivation. A 2005 large study of a nationally representative sample of about 10,000 adults, suggested that the U.S.'s obesity epidemic might have as one of its causes a corresponding decrease in the average number of hours that Americans are sleeping.[19] The study suggests that this might be happening because sleep deprivation might be disrupting hormones that regulate appetite. The study found that people between the ages of 32 and 49 who sleep less than 7 hours a night are significantly more likely to be obese. Other scientists hold that the physical discomfort of obesity and related problems, such as sleep apnea, reduce an individual's chances of getting a good night's sleep.
